"With musicians like this there must be some hope for humanity," says The Times (London) of the acclaimed, nine-time Grammy Award-winning Emerson Quartet. Emerson brings us Walker’s lush Lyric for Strings, which draws inspiration from Barber’s famous Adagio for Strings but is gorgeous and dynamic in its own right, one of the Pulitzer Prize-winning composer’s most enduring works. The cello takes center stage in Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 14; Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 15 includes his stunning “Heiliger Dankgesang,” the “holy song of thanksgiving,” written after the composer’s recovery from a serious illness. The previously scheduled Juilliard String Quartet will not be able to visit the Festival this summer. Tickets for the Juilliard String Quartet are automatically valid for the Emerson String Quartet concert on the same date and time.
