Chris McLaurin*

Christopher McLaurin is the Principal Percussionist of the Kansas City Symphony and a member of the percussion faculty at the University of Missouri Kansas City Conservatory of Music. Before being appointed to these positions, he was a member of the New World Symphony in Miami, FL. His solo engagements have included performing the Xylorimba Solo in Oliver Messiaen’s “Des Canyons Aux Etoles” with Esa Pekka Salonen and the Los Angeles Philharmonic New Music Group and Russel Peck’s “The Glory and the Grander” with the National Repertory Orchestra. Mr. McLaurin has played extra percussion with the Chicago Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Detroit Symphony, Saint Louis Symphony, San Diego Symphony, and Honolulu Symphony. During the summer, he is a percussionist with the Colorado Music Festival in Boulder, CO and in past summers has been a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center, National Repertory Orchestra, Scheshwig Holstein Musik Festival, and the International Festival Institute at Round Top. He is a graduate of The Juilliard School, San Jose State University, and attended Cleveland State University. He is a Freer Percussion Orchestral Artist and an endorser of Pearl Adams, and Zildjian Cymbals.
