Known for her “unique sensitivity and a heightened attention to detail and texture” (The Washington Post) and “programming prowess” (Vancouver Sun), New Zealand-born Gemma New (ONZM) is Artistic Advisor and Principal Conductor of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, and a highly sought-after guest conductor worldwide.She is the recipient of the prestigious 2021 Sir Georg Solti Conducting Award and was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2024. Highlights of New’s 2025-26 season include debuts with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, KBS Symphony Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Nashville Symphony Orchestra, Belgian National Orchestra, SWR Sinfonieorchester, and Houston Grand Opera leading Rossini’s The Barber of Seville.
A leading clarinetist, Ricardo Morales became principal clarinet of The Philadelphia Orchestra in 2003 after serving in the same role with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra at age 21. He has also appeared as guest principal with the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and Berlin Philharmonic, and performs regularly with the Saito Kinen Orchestra and Mito Chamber Orchestra. He has performed with major orchestras including the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Chicago Symphony Orchestra, debuted with the The Philadelphia Orchestra in 2004, and premiered Clarinet Concerto by Jonathan Leshnoff. He has appeared at Carnegie Hall, collaborated with artists including Emanuel Ax and Gil Shaham, and teaches at Temple University.
