Described by The Observer as the “definition of virtuosity” Japanese pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii (Nobu), who has been blind from birth, won the joint Gold Medal at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2009 and has gone on to earn an international reputation for the passion and excitement he brings to his live performances. This season includes debuts with the Chicago Philharmonic and The Cleveland Orchestra, a return to Carnegie Hall with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, a Munich recital, performances of Grieg’s Piano Concerto with Klaus Mäkelä and the Orchestre de Paris, chamber concerts in Paris, and a tour of Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in Tokyo, Mexico City, and Oslo.
Composer Leigha Amick writes music to spark intellectual curiosity and express human experience. Her compositions have been performed by ensembles including the Curtis Symphony Orchestra, Boulder Philharmonic, Orlando Philharmonic, Indiana University New Music Ensemble, NOTUS Contemporary Vocal Ensemble, and Ars Nova Singers. Amick was a 2025 fellow for Copland House CULTIVATE and the Cabrillo Festival Conductors/Composers Workshop. In 2024, her piece Cascade was performed by the New Jersey Symphony via the Edward T. Cone Composition Institute. In 2023, she was a fellow at the Aspen Music Festival. In 2022, New Voices Opera premiered Rhiannon’s Condemnation, a chamber opera based on a Welsh legend from The Mabinogion, with libretto and music by Amick; a revised version was performed in 2024 at the Curtis Institute of Music, conducted by Mariana Corichi Gómez.
