I love the Colorado Music Festival, its orchestra, Chautauqua Auditorium and what happens when those musicians gather in Boulder to make something beautiful together each summer.
I call the CMF Orchestra “the happiest band in the land” because I spent 16 years inside a major American orchestra. I have seen some things. Musicians do not always skip into rehearsal holding hands. Some orchestras have blood feuds so old nobody remembers how they started. People can sit six feet apart for 30 years and never speak. No jive.
But CMF feels different. These musicians come from orchestras around the U.S. They are only together for a few weeks and they seem to truly like one another. I do not see miserable people on that stage, and it matters. Their joy becomes trust, and that trust comes through in the music. You hear an orchestra having one heck of a good time.
Domingo, Agosto 2 is CPR Classical Night at the Colorado Music Festival, and I can’t wait to welcome you from the stage. What a program: Sergei Prokofiev’s “Classical Symphony,” Aaron Copland’s “Clarinet Concerto,” Gioachino Rossini’s “Introduction, Theme and Variations” and Maurice Ravel’s “Mother Goose.”
