Tenure Track Positions

Colorado Music Festival (CMF) presents an exciting concert season each summer at the historic Chautauqua Auditorium in Boulder, Colorado. Under the baton of esteemed Music Director Peter Oundjian, our all-star orchestra — representing 44 “home orchestras” from around the world — gathers at the base of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains every summer to perform exceptional music with renowned soloists and conductors.

In 2027, the Colorado Music Festival’s 51st season rehearsals will begin July 6 with concerts running through August 8. Programming features three orchestra concert series per week, the Robert Mann Chamber Music Series, and a Family Concert. The Festival invites distinguished conductors, soloists, and composers to collaborate every summer.

One of the main draws for our musicians is the chance to spend their summers in Boulder, enjoying the hiking, dining, culture, and more!

All auditions are reviewed in multiple rounds by an audition committee and Music Director. Winners of auditions have two probationary years until tenure is granted, all outlined in the terms of our CBA. We are a per service orchestra; our base section scale for the 2027 season is $130.87/service (15% overscale for Assistant, 25% overscale for Principal chairs). Travel stipend for full time musicians is based on travel distance from home, ranging between $300-$500. We offer double occupancy housing offered at no charge by the festival (or a $1,250 stipend for those finding their own housing). We have a six service guaranteed minimum per week.

APPLICATION AND VIDEO FORMAT

Prior to auditioning, you must provide proof of US work eligibility if you are not a US citizen. Canadian citizens must apply for yearly visas. CMF is not able to help in this process. Visa processing for Canadians is over 12 months (application fee: $800/ Canadians and $2,800/ rush visa).

1. December 15, 2026 — Resume Deadline: To apply, please upload your current resume for your instrument to the specific google form on your instrument’s audition page. Once we have received your resume, you will receive an invitation to submit an audition video.
2. January 2027 Video Deadlines — Upload the audition video to your own Google Drive or Dropbox and upload to CMF Google Form. You may also send an additional upgraded audio recording in this email if you so choose.
3. Please be in touch at auditions@comusic.org with any questions about repertoire or procedures.
4. Candidates will receive an email acknowledging receipt of audition video, and will be notified with results by March 1.
