Aaron Merritt

Aaron Merritt (Vocal Ensemble) has been Adjunct Professor Music Theory since 2009 and Adjunct Professor of Cello at New World School of the Arts since 2006. In addition to being an alumnus of the NWSA High School, Mr. Merritt was a fellow of the New World Symphony under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas. He received is Bachelor of Music degree from Indiana University where he studied with Helga Winold, Emilio Colón and Janos Starker and his Master of Music degree from Rice University where he was a student of Lynn Harrell. In addition to his teaching duties at NWSA, Mr. Merritt is a member of the Miami Music Project, Florida Grand Opera orchestra and the Firebird Chamber Orchestra. He has won competitions held by the New World Symphony, Florida Philharmonic and Boca Raton Symphonic Pops, has performed at festivals in Austria and Holland, and was a recipient of the National Federation of Music Club’s award to study at the Aspen Music Festival. Mr. Merritt has taught at the Point CounterPoint Chamber Music Camp in Vermont, and is a performing member of the Colorado Music Festival in Boulder.
