Derek Lockhart enjoys a diverse musical career as a chamber musician, orchestral performer, commercial artist, and educator. His performances have been heard on five continents including his appointment as Assistant Principal Trumpet with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. During his tenure with the New World Symphony, he worked as an instructor and chamber music coach for the Empire Brass Seminar at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute in Massachusetts. Derek has also served as Acting Principal Trumpet of the Sarasota Orchestra.

Mr. Lockhart has performed in concert with the world-renowned Empire Brass since 2009 and became a member of the celebrated ensemble in 2013. He regularly guest performs both as principal and section trumpet with the Michigan Opera Theatre Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and the Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings. Derek is a founding member of the Motor City Brass Quintet, whose award-winning debut CD “Christmas Vespers” features the music of the Pulitzer Prize-winning American composer John Harbison. Derek is a house musician for theaters throughout the state of Michigan where he performs in the pit for touring Broadway shows.
