Karen Pommerich

During the CMF “off season” violinist Karen Pommerich resides in Jacksonville, Florida. Her orchestras include the Jacksonville Symphony and IRIS Orchestra, as well as freelance work with the Florida Orchestra, Sarasota Orchestra and Opera Tampa. She is active as an orchestral and chamber music coach for youth orchestras, performing arts schools and music camps, and she maintains a private teaching studio in Jacksonville. As a chamber musician, she performs both as a violinist and violist, and she especially values the personal connections made through music when performing in the rooms of hospital and nursing home patients as part of the Jacksonville’s Body and Soul: The Art of Healing program. Her master’s degree is from Florida State University where she studied violin with Eliot Chapo and viola with Pamela Ryan. Undergraduate studies were at the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul where her teachers were Mary West and Robert Zelnick.
